Heya Gang…I want to spend some time going over some of our favorite venues in San Antonio, and today I’d love to share a few things about The Veranda.
As it’s website boasts, “Originally built in the Roaring Twenties, this unique venue embraces the spirit of the era, which introduced new freedoms, new opportunities, and new ways of thinking.” And, this venue does indeed embrace a new, unique, fresh style for San Antonio. Oh sure, we’ve got our ballrooms, and don’t even get me started on our “rustic, hill country” venues South Texas is home to. And between you and me, with exception to only a few – I love them all. But what The Veranda offers, in my opinion are 2 distinct things that separate it from the herd :
First- from a photographic standpoint, with its mosaic designs, its historic-European style architecture, and its bold colors – it’s an opportunity to SCREAM personality. And not just specific, isolated personalities…like, ANY personality!! You can be bold, you can be shy, you can be young, you can be mature, you can be elegant or you can dress down…it doesn’t seem to matter. Architecture with this sensibility feels so secure, it reflects the energy brought on by the people versus the need to create its own. We are always excited when we get to photograph events here because we know it’s going to be different every time!
And Second – from a planning standpoint, I’ll tell you another little secret about why this place works so well, it’s management and staff have it running like a well oiled machine. The well respected and very successful Spice of Life Catering, headed by Executive Chef Michael Bomber, purchased this property (which was previously The Lodge, a Jason Dady restaurant for fine dining until closing it’s doors in 2011). Since taking over the property, the SoL crew has taken the same creative approach that made their catering such a success and they’ve turned The Veranda into one of the most sought after wedding & event venues in San Antonio. I can personally attest that for every time we’ve had the pleasure of working at this venue, it feels comfortably extravagant with a group of 500 and somehow just as comfortably quaint with a group of 50.
Let me tell you that I love…I’ll repeat, I LOVE a well-run business. As an event planner, nothing frustrates me more than a beautiful venue with a staff whose competency doesn’t match the view. And the two front women of The Veranda : Jessica – the catering manager, and Miranda – the venue manager have things well in hand…along with a fabulous staff of coordinators, cooks & servers. I know that when we coordinate or photograph an event here, it will be a smooth one – with much of the credit going to these 2 ladies. Without them, they wouldn’t receive such reviews as :
