Hello, hi and good morning to you! I am particularly excited to share some details and images from An Evening With the Stars for three reasons :
- It is an event put on ONLY for families with special needs young ladies of high school age.
- It was planned entirely from scratch by our fabulous team at Moments & Milestones.
- It was one of the most heartwarming evenings of my life.
This inspiration for this event came from my beautiful wife – Aimee, where…let’s be honest, most of our company inspirations come from. She has a heart for empowering young ladies. And she has a niece and 2 nephews who are special needs – these 3 kiddos were lovingly adopted by Aimee’s older sister and her family. During conversation a passing comment was made by Aimee’s sister that it was too bad her daughter wouldn’t get the full experience of a high school prom. Most public events are not set-up to accommodate the many limitations that a family with special needs kids has to think of…and often the children are not completely accepted as a part of the mainstream social group anyways. So, the idea to hold a Prom Night for special needs young ladies was born.
The name (and this year’s theme) – An Evening With the Stars – came quickly after because we wanted these young ladies to feel beautiful, glamorous, loved and special…like the stars of the night! And, what we thought was going to be the hard part was finding vendors who would donate or severely discount their services for the evening. But please let me brag on the events community in San Antonio by saying – everyone we asked agreed to donate their product or services without question or pressure. We had some of the best and most talented people & businesses in the industry agree provide 100% of the wants/needs to put on this event – some of the business owners and company talent came to set-up and work the event themselves, just to spend the evening with the kids.
And the kids…beautiful, sweet, happy with SO MUCH ENERGY!! They danced and danced all night! Some of my daughter’s high school friends volunteered to serve, clean and be on the dance floor with The Stars. And thank God they did because there is no way I could have danced for as long as they did…OMG, these kids never slowed down (*I just re-read that sentence…and yes I realize how old I sound, haha*)
So here are a few of the highlights of this wonderful event with these wonderful people. We are already planning for next year – so there will be more to come!!
